Abstract

The nutritional status of children can be a predictor of health in adulthood, that is why this study pretends to determine the nutritional status of Mapuche school-age children belonging to Boyeco, Temuco. The rates of overweight and obesity found are similar to national rates,
reaching prevalences of overweight in male and female of 21% and 36% respectively. The obese condition values achieved are 19% in ladies and 17% in males. This situation is a warning about the future quality of life, whereas obese during childhood is a risk factor for developing the same condition in adulthood, as well as non-communicable chronic diseases associated with obesity and overweight which are the main cause of death in the population over 40 years.
