Abstract

Heart rate (HR) and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) are closely related. A CAFRA test that measures the heart rate recovery (HRr) is used instead of Course Navette Test (multi-stage fitness test) in the System for Measuring the Quality of Education (SIMCE) for Physical Education. The objective was to determine the relationship between HRr obtained through a CAFRA test and VO2 max from Course Navette test. Evaluation included 136 physical education students who volunteered for the study: 32 women (aged 19.7 ± 1) and 104 men (aged 20.3 ± 1.7). The analysis was performed using SPSS 19. The relationship between HRr and VO2 max for the sample was rho -0.545 (p <0.01), for women rho -0.245 (not significant) and in men rho -0.396 (p <0.01). The trend in the sample is the lesser HRr is, the greater the VO2 max is, and vice versa. CAFRA test can be an alternative assessment test to Course Navette
