Abstract

For decades there has been a sharp increase in the elderly population. This age group shows physical functioning problems and cognitive problems that occur naturally, progressively, and irreversibly in humans. That is why physical activity has been considered as an important tool in the recovery, maintenance, and promotion of health and quality of life, being a preventive and therapeutic strategy against aging. This review aims to: highlight different types of physical activity interventions associated with health in the elderly, determine their effects, compare their results and establish that, irrespective of the type of intervention, positive outcomes will be obtained in the elderly.
