Multiple intelligences in students of physical education of the USEK of Chile

Abstract

The existence of seven types of intelligence might explain the variability in performance of the diverse activities undertaken by each person. The aims of the present study were to determine the psychometric properties of MIDAS in physical education students at USEK, Chile, and to determine the level of development of the seven intelligences in physical education students at USEK, Chile. For this purpose, 151 students of the physical education teacher training program were evaluated by means of the Multiple Intelligences Developmental Assessment Scales (MIDAS). The results of the psychometric properties show that the instrument is reliable and valid in this type of population. Further, the level of development for each one of the multiple intelligences is similar in each year of the physical education teacher training program, and it is also similar between women and men. Finally, the interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences present higher values than the musical and mathematical intelligences in these students. Further research in multiple intelligences in relation with other academic variables is necessary.
